Alasdair - The Irish Exile Years

from Scot AnSgeulaiche

Book/Magazine

The first book in the series of the true stories of Alasdair MacDonald.

When the Irish tenants rise up against the land owners in the Christmas of 1641, Alasdair MacColla MacDhòmhnail, in exile from Scotland, gains a position in the new General Law and Order Brigade. The civil unrest spreads, dragging him deeper and testing loyalties, when all he wants is to return to Scotland and free his family from the gaol of the most powerful man in the country, the Earl of Argyll.

Drawing from oral-history, first hand British Civil War letters and diaries and Vatican records, Alasdair's true story is a maelstrom of exile, justice, heroic deeds, power-balance, bigotry and the supernatural. He is dubbed the Holer of Houses by his enemies and lauded by others as the last defender of a dying culture.

Scot AnSgeulaiche is Seanachaidh – professional, traditional storyteller and oral-historian — to Sir Lachlan Maclean, Chief of Clan Maclean, Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull. He lived in Argyll for five years, where stories of Alasdair MacColla are still told, at least by him.
